GUIDE
A romantic drama based on R K Narayan’s The Guide, the runaway box-office hit also had memorable music by the legendary S D Burman. The film tells the love story of the married Rosy and the guide, Raju, who encourages her to follow her dreams. The two, though, end up being unhappy and estranged after Rosy becomes a famous dancer and Raju does forgery to make sure that she does not meet up with her ex-husband. The film was both a telling commentary on its times, but also way ahead in its depiction of a woman who decides to follow her heart, singing Aaj phir jeene ki Tamanna hai.
