AMAR PREM
The iconic film, based on the Bengali short story Hinger Kochuri, tells the story of a young boy who befriends his lovely, kind neighbour who is a prostitute (Tagore). Khanna stars as a lonely businessman who loves the courtesan, becoming her exclusive patron. The two also care for the little boy, helping him out in various ways whenever possible. Vinod Mehra plays the adult version of the young boy who takes the aged courtesan home as his own mother. The film is made even more memorable with the haunting melodies by R D Burman. Who can forget Kishore da singing a melancholy Chingari Koi Bhadke?
