To start out with dreams shining like stars in one’s eyes and a year later, to be staring into the face of a gaping financial abyss… many a startup story has traveled this tortuous path. What makes the achievers stand apart is the resolve to keep believing in the dream and to do whatever it takes to achieve it. That sums up the story of Zuvius Lifesciences, started by Nimish Thakkar, Alka Chavan, and Shailesh Shetty in Mumbai in 2005. The period from 2006 to 2008 was a particularly debilitating time for the pharmaceutical company, which had set its sights on creating high-quality oncology products through meticulous research. But even while staring at a potential loss of crores of rupees, the team showed amazing grit and fortitude and fought for their dreams. And the saga has come to this today: having started out with just one product in its first year, Zuvius now has a portfolio of over 90 products to its credit. In its bid to introduce novel products across segments other than oncology, Zuvius’ current focus lies in nutraceuticals. Be it research and development or CSR activities, with each step it takes, Zuvius is working towards creating a community filled with the golden glow of wellness.

IN ITS PURSUIT OF REDEFINING HEALTHCARE ACROSS THE GLOBE, ZUVIUS IS CURRENTLY BRANCHING OUT WITH ITS ONCOLOGY PRODUCTS ACROSS LATIN AMERICA, SOUTHEAST ASIA, AND AFRICA, AMONG OTHER COUNTRIES.

Right from the start, the founders were certain that their journey would not be clouded by merely chasing figures. The trio’s belief system revolves around keeping people above profit, and quality above quantity. And it is nothing but this grounded belief that propelled Zuvius Lifesciences to become one of the most promising pharmaceutical brands that India has seen. A few years into its inception, an eminent research scientist came onboard, adding their experience in the fields of oncology and pharmaceutical marketing to the top-notch talent pool at the company. “When I coined the brand name Zuvius, for me, it was a word that emanated positivity,” says Nimish. “The team agreed, saying it had a ring of joy to it.” More than 10 years ago, when Nimish started the company, he had a vision in mind: to emerge as the most respected pharmaceutical brand in the industry. Zuvius is well on its way to that vision; it is now steadily working its way up to place itself on the global healthcare map. “We don’t want to be just another onco-pharma company. We want to redefine oncology in many thoughtful ways,” says Nimish. “We don’t want to simply extend the life expectancy of cancer patients; we also want to assure an improved quality of life for them.” As part of giving back to the society they thrive in, the team at Zuvius has executed a number of CSR programmes, the most popular being the Pink Street campaign. A cancer awareness drive, the campaign has completed two successful editions in the last two years.

The Pink Street campaign aims to educate people about the importance of early detection and timely treatment. “The idea is to make them understand how cancer can be prevented, and doing it in an interactive manner will create more impact,” says Nimish. In 2015, Zuvius collaborated with cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s cancer foundation, YouWeCan, to hold a successful cancer awareness drive in 25 colleges across the country, reaching over 50,000 students. In its pursuit of redefining healthcare across the globe, Zuvius is currently branching out with its oncology products across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Africa, among other countries. The company has also won the prestigious titles of India’s Most Promising Pharmaceutical Brand award, and the Most Inspiring Power Brand Rising Star award.
